Infrared Light Therapy

What is infrared light?

Light travels to the Earth in waves. These waves vary in length and colour. Infrared light is one of the invisible to the humans eye rays of natural sunlight that we can only see in special cameras.

What does infrared light do?

Near infrared light therapy is an every-day term for the science of photobiomodulation. It uses invisible, near infrared wavelengths between 700 and 1200 nm to deliver energy to the cells, stimulating healing and relieving pain. Infrared light therapy has been proven effective by hundreds of studies all over the globe, it is 100% natural and has no known adverse side effects.

What is infrared light therapy?

Infrared light can be used for both acute and chronic pain areas, it uses specific wavelengths of light. When infrared energy is delivered to the injury site and other painful areas, it dramatically increases circulation, reduces inflammation, and promotes healing. The result is rapid relief of discomfort. Infrared light penetrates the body deeper than any other colour on the spectrum, approximately 20 - 100mm, reaching into soft tissues, muscles, joints, and bone. It dilates blood vessels, increases white blood cells and killer T-cell count overall to promote blood circulation and the healing process. The treatment should feel comfortable and relaxing.

Symptoms that are beneficial with infrared light therapy:

  • Muscle cramps and aches

  • Poor digestion

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Diabetes

  • Period cramps

  • Insomnia

  • Rhoumatoid Arthritis

  • Joint pain

  • Wound healing

  • Poor circulation

  • Diarrhoea

  • Limited range of motion

Contraindications to use infrared heat therapy:

  • With fitted pacemakers, defibrillator of any type of electrical implants

  • Acute high fever, otitis media, Splenitis, Ophthalmic disease, cancer, cardiac disease, open pulmonary tuberculosis, serious arteriole sclerosis and bleeding tendencies

  • With hypertension, use of light should be avoided on the head.

  • Insensitive skin, swollen, inflamed or skin laceration

Fun facts about infrared lights:

  1. Almost half of the energy arriving to the Earth from the sun comes as infrared light.

  2. Infra Red waves are also given off by stars, galaxies, lamps, flames and anything else that’s warm – including you.

  3. ‘Palm Healing‘, an ancient tradition in China, has used the healing properties of far infrared rays for 3,000 years. These natural healers emit energy and heat radiating from their hands to heal, much the same as Reiki healers do. Yogis in India also employ palm healing and recommend it especially for relieving eye strain.

  4. Infrared light can travel through thick smoke, dust or fog, and even through some materials.

  5. Couples that sleep together act as transmitters and receivers of FIR(Far Infrared Radiation) waves to each other. If you sleep alone, you act as a transmitter of FIR waves, but you receive none in return.
